| Thursday evening March 24th the company participated in an air pack confidence training class held at the Chester Heights Fire Co. (71). Participants completed a nine station mini-obstacle course in full turnout gear while utilizing an air pack for breathing. This refreshed participants on some basic skills and tested their endurance in performing the skills. The obstacles were as follows:
-Dragging a dry 1 3/4 hose line approximately 50 feet
-Placing a 14 foot roof ladder
-Utilizing a roof saw to complete one simulated roof cut
-Using a long pike pole to simulate pulling a ceiling 15 times
-Simulating climbing 4 floors using a Stairmaster machine
-Climbing a extension ladder and then hoisting a 30 pound weight
-Clearing a tight space requiring the removal of your air pack to make the clearance
-Dragging a dummy approximately 20 feet and back
-A hand/eye coordination test, moving a golf ball and a football from individual cones and placing them on diagonal cones
Nine members attended the class and the class served as a great refresher while getting in some exercise at the same time. Thank you to the Chester Heights Fire Co. (71) for allowing us the opportunity to participate. Additional thanks to Bethel members Mike Heacock and John Heacock for conducting an air pack review class on March 17th. The March 17th review class covered the components and proper care/maintenance of an air pack. |
