Engine Assist on Working Restaurant Fire

Saturday morning May 1st around 0815hrs Concordville (59), Longwood (Chester County 25)and the Media (23) Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) were dispatched to 1507 Wilmington West Chester Pike Jimmy John's Restaurant for a building fire. Medic 59-7A arrived with smoke showing from all sides. Engine 59-2 command requested Bethel (66), Chester Heights (71) and a second rapid intervention team (RIT) from Holmes (43) be added to the assignment.

Engine 59-2 arrived with a working kitchen fire and smoke showing from all sides. Engine 59-2's crew placed a 1 ¾ hand line in service. Interior conditions quickly deteriorated and the incident was changed to an exterior operation. Engine 66-1 with a crew of six under the command of Chief Craig E. Small (66-9) made the response. Engine 66-1's crew upon arrival was put to work assisting with extinguishment, ventilation and salvage/overhaul. Tankers from Goodwill of West Chester (Chester County 52), Kennett (Chester County 24) and Po-Mar-Lin (Chester County 36) were added to assist with water supply. Engines from Brookhaven (52), Parkside (45), Rose Tree (73), Goodwill of West Chester (Chester County 52) and Lima (69) were added for manpower. Crews operated for approximately 4 hours under the command of Concordville Chief Tom Nelling (59-9) and Concordville Assistant Chief Rob Griffin Jr. (59-9B) had the operations sector.
